Terra and Kamron waiting on the train. We ended up going the wrong way the first time we got on.
On Saturday everyone left except for the FOUR students from my school that were up there with me. I have to say for those that don't know how big of a deal that is there were over 12 schools in our region and there are 8 awards that take you to nationals one of them being a partner award. We won in Acting(Partner award), Dramaturgy, and Costume Design; the awards that were left are Sound Design, Scenic Design, Lighting Design, Directing, and Playwright. We were nearly HALF of the people in our region which is crazy!!! This rarely happens especially since our region has amazing schools in it,
After the festival we explored DC and I took lots of pictures. These are only a few that I took on my trip.
SATURDAY
These trees were everywhere and they are so pretty to look at! I saved a few in a book and pressed them so I could save them as a reminder of my trip.
Here is Rena, Lloyd, and Terra(our dramaturg) admiring the National Cathedral. It was beautiful inside and out!
An Artistic view of the facade.
L-Rena Entering the Cathedral R- Terra and Lloyd admiring the inside.
We stayed for quite a while because there was a lovely concert going on inside by a local children's choir. The part that we had to miss though was one of the all boys groups who's name was "Jackets Off".
Saturday Night we went on the National Mall Tour lead by our drama chair Tom. It was intense we started around 9 and were back at the hotel around 1. We walked the whole thing and walked back too. Whew!
The Lincoln Memorial is gorgeous at night!! There were so many people here and it was very loud so I didn't get any great pictures inside.
Honestly one of my favorite photos that I took the entire trip. I'm glad that I could capture this moment that Kamron was having at the FDR memorial
This was exhilarating to stand in front of. It was so powerful and just took our breath away. We were the only ones here.
Kamron in front of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. It was gorgeous, we talked about why they used a white stone instead of a darker stone for this memorial. We never really came up with a solid reason.
Okay this is the most underrated memorial of all. Thomas Jefferson is the ONLY memorial of a president that is standing, he also directly faces Dr. King. On our trip out of all of the memorials this was the only one that the entire place was silent. Once you passed through the entry it was silent or people talked in a whisper. People weren't being loud or disrespectful like at other memorials. We think that it is because of the presence that he holds by standing up.
SUNDAY
Sunday was pretty short but it started out early. I finally got a picture of the infamous Jake that day but still no Tom.
Jake and Kamron the dynamic duo getting some DC swag in front of the Smithsonian.
Terra searching for our professors.
Lloyd never minds being in a photo. Here we are heading to the National Portrait Gallery which we had to zip through really quickly which was disappointing.
That was my trip! I hope to go back again in the future if I can!
